TaylorMade RocketBladez Irons Review

TaylorMade golf irons are one of the best ones in the golf market. The company is amongst the top-tier companies and is acknowledged by a number of professional and amateur golf players. Their RocketBladez irons and tour irons feature a slot on the sole of the long and mid irons, which is known as speed pocket that gives off a unique look to the irons.

TaylorMade RocketBladez Irons

The TaylorMade RocketBladez irons have been launched with much technical improvement for increased speed. Their long irons, especially, suit a wide range of players. The improved manufacturing processes of irons is what has resulted in the spring-like effect of their faces.

The main improvement in RocketBladez irons is in the speed pocket on the sole of the club. This allows for more flexing of the face which results in greater ball speed and distance. This principle is the same as in RocketBallz faiway wood. The only difference is that it has been integrated in an iron for the first time. The improved technology in RocketBladez irons also accounts for more forgiveness. According to TaylorMade, in these irons, there are fewer hot spots where the ball goes further off one part of the face than another.

As far as the design of the irons is concerned, the mid-sized heads have a generous topline. The improved inverted cone design lessens directional dispersion, hence better accuracy. It increases the size of the clubface area that generates greater speed. According to TaylorMade, the inverted cone technology has an effect on how the face flexes and rebounds at impact. As a result, it influences the angle at which the ball leaves the face.

The offset is how you would expect it to be on an average iron. The progressive offset promotes a square face at impact for straighter shots. You will find the speed pocket on the far right in only the 3-7 irons which further goes to more traditional cavity backs. The speed pocket is a 2mm slot in the sole of the irons and lets the 1.6mm thick flex with more ease at impact, particularly on shots that hit low down the face. The speed pocket is specifically developed to give a boost to the speed of the ball as well as distance. Together with the inverted cone design, the speed pocket promotes consistent higher ball speed and higher peak trajectory as well. These qualities can be observed especially on miss-hits low on the face, and a soft-landing, quick-stopping approach angle.

RocketBladez irons have a large cavity behind the stainless steel faces. This lowers the center of gravity, hence pulling it further away from the face. This feature is what accounts for more forgiveness in the irons and makes them higher-flying. According to TaylorMade, the irons have COR numbers that are similar to a driver’s. Externally, the slot is covered with polyurethane that prevents the debris from getting in. The polyurethane also aids in quieting down the vibrations without hampering the flexing much.

Feel and Looks

The feel of these irons is sturdy and they produce an amazing sound too. The swing feels smooth and fluent while the clubs also don’t feel too heavy. The overall appearance of the irons is great too. They exhibit a clean, sharp, and well-finished look. The colors are also quite better than TaylorMade’s previous irons. The enhanced forgiveness and response of these irons is perhaps the best quality about them. The clubs seem to reduce the amount of spin which is great when you want to hit straighter shots. The clubs are also pretty useful for those who struggle with keeping the ball on the course. The retail price of the TaylorMade RocketBladez irons is over $780.

The RocketBladez wedges are great to hit and they go well together with the rest of the set. In the club’s design, the lofts are 1 club up from where they usually are. Compared to the previous irons, the lofts are much stronger in these. Another addition is that of the external and internal notches on the hostel which accounts for bending for custom fitting. You can, therefore, bend the head to adjust the lie angle. Not only is that great for practical use, but also adds to the style and look of the club. You can also opt for Rocketfuel shafts that are more lightweight than normal. The lightweight helps with better speed and is also the reason why the head feels heavier than usual while swinging.

Are TaylorMade RocketBladez golf irons good for beginners? Yes. For beginners, it is best to start with more versatile clubs. Instead of getting a single iron, one must purchase a number of them, at least 3. The conventional set would consist of 3 – 4 irons between 7- to 11-. As the number of irons increases, the number of their lofts increases too. The RocketBladez 6 iron is potentially a better mid-iron for a beginner. This iron features a speed pocket that gives more speed to the ball along with greater accuracy. The R1 8 iron is also good for beginners. One good thing about this one is that you can modify its weight which makes trying shots more suitable.

Are TaylorMade RocketBladez irons forged? Not exactly. TaylorMade claims to have forged irons for tour professionals and low-handicap amateur players. With respect to the irons’ construction, however, the tour irons are not made of forged steel but cast stainless steel. However, virtually, nobody can really tell the difference between cast and forged. They feel exactly like forged irons.

What year did TaylorMade RocketBladez irons come out? The RocketBladez originally came out in the year 2012 and made a comeback in the market in 2016.

On a whole, TaylorMade’s RocketBladez irons are a well-balanced golf equipment. They are especially amazing with respect to distance, playability, looks, and overall performance. They are definitely recommended to all kinds of golf players who seek a proven high-quality set of golf irons.
